Since its transition to a democratic government in 1990, Benin has undergone a considerable economic recovery. 

Being a tropical country, it is highly reliant on agriculture with substantial employment and income arising from subsistence agriculture.

Cotton accounts for 40% of the country’s GDP and approximately 80% of export receipts. Benin is also renown for its colorful and intricate textiles, which are widely sold and used in other African countries as well as foreign countries.Paragraph

There is also the production of palm products, cocoa beans, maize, peanuts, cashew nuts, pineapples amongst others are grown for local subsistence.
